Holiday schedules brought a slower training pace, but Nakina continues to grow in confidence, manners, and independence.

🐾 Happy Holidays

With both of my sons here for the holidays, extra focused training — especially things like elevators — has been a bit more challenging. That said, we’ve been getting plenty of general manners work in, and Nakina is handling it all beautifully.

Training

Treats have been weaned off for “sit,” though random reinforcement will still occur to continue strengthening the behavior. Indoor leash work continues to go very well.

Socialization

We’ve had great success riding elevators, and this week I practiced with just myself rather than my husband as well. Our final step will be to practice in at least one additional elevator, as we’ve only worked in two so far.

Nakina’s time alone at home has increased to the maximum length she can comfortably manage without needing a potty break. This time will continue to increase gradually as she matures.

What's Next

  • Sit — duration, distance, and distractions
  • Down — duration, distance, and distractions
  • Grooming — continue desensitizing to the Dremel
  • Walking — calm leash walking on the left without pulling
  • Complete elevator desensitization

The holidays with a puppy truly couldn’t be any better.
